John grew up on properties in southwest Queensland in the Bymont and Gunnewin area south of Injune, most predominantly “Highland Plains” owned by his fathers first cousin Steve Ward. This was just one of several properties his family owns in the Maranoa Region including Taringa, Wilga Park and Karana. The Ward family is commonly known in this area for the Two Ward brothers who founded and lived seasonally in Ward Canyon in Carnavon gorge. The time he spent with the Ward family is where his passion for cattle originated and where he learnt to handle and care for cattle.
From the beginning he contract mustered and fenced locally at Injune and to as far out as Wyandra, and Augathella part time whilst attending school, and full time upon completion of year 12.
Your classic country bloke, when he wasn’t mustering or working, he was either playing football, 150km offshore fishing or finding any other excuses to crack a beer and spin a yarn with the locals.
John has spent nearly 2 years at Stocklick and has begun undertaking courses in Beef cattle Nutrition and farm management. John looks forward to speaking with you regarding your stock nutrition needs.
